Our Mission

The mission of the Indiana Orthopaedic Society is to enhance career-long enrichment of the practices of Indiana's orthopaedic surgeons through the encouragement of collegiality, educational opportunities, and legislative advocacy.  With these, we promote and safeguard high quality orthopaedic care to all Hoosiers.

Who We Are and What We Do

The Indiana Orthopaedic Society was founded in 1957 by several Hoosier orthopaedists who saw the need for an organization in which they could share knowledge and experiences, and foster collegiality.

More than 60 years later, IOS has grown to include more than 200 members from across the state of Indiana. Orthopaedic practitioners from South Bend to Evansville and Fort Wayne to Terre Haute, and everywhere in between, have joined and participate in IOS because, much like those founding physicians believed, it is still vitally important to have a network in which to share expertise,  develop relationships, and strive for a better working environment for all Hoosier orthopaedic surgeons. IOS works towards this through developing professional and personal networks across the state at our annual meeting and beyond, and through the extensive legislative lobbying performed by our board members both at home in Indiana and in Washington, D.C. In an ever-changing landscape for today’s physicians, the mission and work of IOS is crucial to ensuring that orthopaedic surgeons are able to practice in a manner that best serves them and their patients.
