Fellow Orthopaedic Surgeons, It is an honor to be the president of the Indiana Orthopaedic Society this year. I stand on the shoulders of giants who have held this seat before, and I am humbled by the opportunity to represent orthopaedic surgeons in our great state. The Indiana Orthopaedic Society serves three main functions. First, we provide opportunities to continue your orthopaedic education through the Annual Meeting. This program allows insightful debate and sharing of knowledge through leaders in our field. It is the highlight of our year for the IOS, and we are hard at work to make this years program engaging and enriching. Second, the society advocates for you with our local and national leaders. We hold fundraisers for prominent legislators and discuss important issues with representatives in our state capital and Washington. We ensure that orthopaedic care in Indiana has a seat at the table in healthcare discussions, because we never want to be “on the menu.” Finally, the IOS fosters collegiality amongst peers. It is great to know the person who I’m talking with when I send a patient to Indianapolis or Fort Wayne for a second opinion. Connecting with those colleagues at least annually is crucial to maintaining those relationships, and I’m forever grateful to the Indiana Orthopaedic Society for allowing me to get to know many of your through the years. I encourage you to join us April 16-18 in Carmel for this years annual meeting and would love for you to renew your membership (or become a member if your are not yet a part of the society). It is easy to become a member, just fill out the registration form and put down my name and Joe Randolph (our IOS historian) as your sponsors (or other IOS member if you prefer). Please feel free to contact me directly at [email protected] if you have any questions, ideas, or concerns. With gratitude, Jim Flynn, MDSouth Bend Orthopaedics
